Henrikh Mikhitaryan rejects new Borussia Dortmund deal amid Arsenal interest
Henrikh Mkhitaryan has rejected the opportunity to open contract negotiations with Borussia Dortmund amid reported interest from Arsenal.
Mkhitaryan joined the Bundesliga giants in the summer of 2013 when he ignored Liverpool’s advances in favour of joining Jurgen Klopp in Germany.
The 27-year-old has made 88 league appearances since, scoring 23 goals, and this season was by far his best in the famous yellow shirt of Dortmund. The Armenian scored 11 goals and created 82 chances – the most at the club – while he also assisted a club-high 15 goals too.
In fact, no one in Germany’s top flight assisted more than Mikhitaryan this season, but he’s now dealt Dortmund a blow by opting against negotiating a new deal.
His agent Mino Raiola told German newspaper Bild, as reported by the Independent:”Why would we sign a contract renewal now?
“Micki has a contract until June 2017 and we are looking at his options for the future.”
As his agent said, Mkhitaryan’s current deal expires next summer so Dortmund’s No.10 is looking at his options and after such a superb season both domestically and in Europe, there will be plenty of top clubs interested in signing him.
